How to manage the Charging Cable Lock setting for Copper SB?

Copper SB is a “Socket-outlet” enabled charger that can accommodate all EV charging connectors and avoids having cables lying around when the charger isn’t in use. 

However, you may want to use your Copper SB as a tethered device in some cases. For this, you can turn on the Charging cable lock feature. When activated, the charger will activate its locking mechanism as soon as it detects an EV charging cable plugged in to secure the connector until the functionality is disabled.

How to access the Charging cable lock setting from the Wallbox app?

You must have Super-admin or Admin permissions to manage a Copper SB Charging Cable Lock settings.

To activate the feature, please ensure the charger software version is 5.13 or higher and the Wallbox app is updated to the latest version.

To activate the Charging cable lock feature for your Copper SB, you first must add your charger to your Wallbox account. Once your charger is added, follow the steps below:

  1. Log into your Wallbox account.
  2. Select your Copper SB from the chargers list.
  3. Wait until your charger connects to the app through Bluetooth or Cloud (Wi-Fi).
  4. Go to Settings by tapping the cogwheel icon.
  5. Go to Advanced Options.
  6. Enable or disable the Charging Cable Lock.

Your Copper SB charging cable is now locked/unlocked.

How to access the Charging Cable Lock setting from the Wallbox portal?

OCPP Compatibility

If the OCPP already allows socket locking, the Charging cable lock feature will be deactivated to avoid interfering with the backend service provider’s ability to lock/unlock the charging cable.

FAQs

What happens if the Charging cable lock feature is enabled and there is a blackout?
Since the goal is to ensure the EV charging cable is secured to the charger, the lock will remain activated even in a blackout.
What happens if the Charging cable lock feature is enabled and the cable is stuck?
A safety feature is implemented as a backup in the unlikely event the EV charging cable becomes stuck.
The installer must perform a power cycle, turning the power off from the source and then on again. During the boot-up, the charger will perform a safety unlock after a few seconds, letting the user 30s to remove the EV connector. 
If the charging cable isn’t removed after this interval, the charger will proceed to lock the charging cable again.
What happens if the Charging cable lock feature is enabled and the charger enters Error mode (Red LED)?
Since the feature’s goal is to ensure the EV charging cable is secured in any case to the charger, the lock will remain activated in the case of an error.
