Tibber x Wallbox Integration

Wallbox joins forces with Tibber, a smart energy supplier. By doing so, both companies aim to build awareness and increase the accessibility of smart charging.

The interoperability partnership means that EV drivers in the Netherlands and Sweden equipped with a Wallbox AC home charger can now use the Tibber app to charge their EVs when energy is cheapest, as Tibber’s energy contracts are based on dynamic energy rates, meaning consumers pay for the current hourly purchase price of electricity.

Dynamic tariffs combined with smart charging have the potential to help balance the grid while also encouraging a more sustainable use of energy.

Compatibility and Benefits

Which Wallbox products are compatible?
All Wallbox AC chargers with an Internet connection feature can be linked to the Tibber App.

The exact list of compatible Wallbox chargers is as follows:
Pulsar Plus, Pulsar Max, Pulsar Pro, Commander 2/2s, Copper SB, and Orion.

In which countries is the integration available?
The integration with Tibber will be available in the Netherlands and Sweden on July 4th of 2023. Other countries, such as Norway or Germany, could be covered.

What are the benefits as a Wallbox user?
After the partnership with Tibber, Wallbox users will benefit from smart charging capabilities and the cheapest and greenest possible energy while supporting the power grid using their chargers with the Tibber app.
Is this partnership having any benefit for me as a Wallbox Installer?
Wallbox chargers will be integrated with Tibber Pulse, allowing the charger to do load balancing and Power Sharing without a wired meter, thus simplifying the installation process.

What is the Tibber Pulse P1?
The Tibber Pulse P1 is the most common power meter model in Sweden and the Netherlands, compatible with newer electricity meters with an RJ12/P1 port.
How do I know if my smart meter works with Tibber Pulse?
For explicit use of Tibber smart charging and optimization of electricity consumption, it is recommended to use only Tibber Pulse meters.

Usage and Functionalities

Should I use the Tibber App or the myWallbox App?
Once your charger is linked to the Tibber App, you can still use the myWallbox app as it will continue to operate with all functionalities. Still, if using the Tibber App and the Smart Energy functionalities, we advise using Tibber App only so there are non-contradictory instructions sent to the charger that could create incompatibilities.  
I already have a Wallbox charger installed. Can I join and use Tibber energy management functionalities with my charger?
Yes. But depending on the smart charging functionalities you want to enable from Tibber, you might require (or not) a Tibber Pulse.

I already have a Wallbox charger installed with a power meter from Wallbox. Can I have a Tibber Pulse installed instead and use Tibber’s energy management functionalities with my charger?
We do not recommend having a Wallbox power meter and a Tibber Pulse installed simultaneously for energy management applications, as this can cause incompatibilities in the charger control.

In such cases, we recommend using either Wallbox Energy Management Solutions (EMS) with a Wallbox power meter or Tibber smart charging along with the Tibber Pulse.

Suppose you keep your Wallbox power meter (or CT clamp) without having the Tibber Pulse installed. In that case, you can still benefit from Wallbox Power Boost and Eco-Smart (Solar charging) features while still using Tibber’s smart charging capabilities such as ToU (Time-of-Use) tariffs, Ready-by-Time and help stabilise the grid.

What happens if my Wallbox charger loses Internet connection?
The Tibber system and Wallbox charger use the Internet to allow all basic communication. If Internet connectivity is lost in the charger, the Tibber system won’t be able to function, including automated or scheduled orders.

In this case, we recommend using the myWallbox App and connecting to the charger via Bluetooth to access the charger and charge.

Will my Tibber App schedule instructions start if my smartphone loses its Internet connection?
Even though you don’t have access to the Tibber App from your smartphone or your smartphone loses its Internet connection, all scheduled actions or automated instructions will be given to the charger as long as it is connected to the Internet.

Who should I contact if the Tibber App doesn’t work properly with my Wallbox charger?
