Supernova’s presentation and FAQs

Supernova is Wallbox’s next-generation business solution for DC fast-charging. Its higher efficiency and reliability maximize uptime, benefiting both electric vehicle drivers and charge point operators.

With its 60 kW, it adds up to 100 km of range, enough to cover the average urban daily needs in under 15 minutes, to be ready while drivers enjoy a refreshment, run a quick errand or shop for groceries. This makes it perfect for public charging in urban or interurban locations and semi-public parking lots (including supermarkets, shopping malls or fast-food restaurants).

As a Supernova user, you can find answers to the most frequently asked questions below.

Generalities

No, in fact, Supernova does not work with Wallbox app as they are run by different operators depending on their location. Consequently, each charge point may be managed by a mobile app specific to each operator or have different charging prices.
This is also the reason why we recommend contacting the operator of your Supernova directly for quicker and more efficient assistance.

Yes, all vehicles coming with a fast-charging outlet (CCS or CHAdeMO) are compatible.

In case Supernova has a higher maximum charge rate than your car can handle; it will just charge at the maximum rate that your car can accept.

Supernova comes with two types of EV guns: CCS and CHAdeMO.

  1. CCS → marked with the letter “K”.

    It is located on the left side of the charger. The CCS gun is automatically released/locked by its holster or the vehicle.

  2. CHAdeMO → marked with the letter “M”.

    It is located at the charger’s right side. The CHAdeMO works with a trigger that must be pulled in order to release it from its holster or the vehicle.

Supernova chargers can be easily located using the Electromaps app (iOS and Android) or website, or any other map listing charging points.

Using a Supernova

Supernova can charge up to 60kW (fast-charging), which adds up approximately a 100km autonomy range to your EV in 15 mins.

However, this charging time mays vary depending on the vehicle’s battery capacity, the charging curve of each battery, and other factors.

Look at the table below to have an idea of Supernova’s charging time. Take into account that the information displayed below is based on the average vehicle battery management system requesting charging power from 20% to 80% under mild environmental conditions.

As mentioned above, Supernova chargers are managed by different operators depending on their location. As a result, the charging process may differ slightly from one Supernova to another, even if they follow the same basic pattern.

To start a Supernova charging session, follow the steps below:

  1. Unlock the screen either by:
    • Touching the screen,
    • Tapping your RFID card on the card reader placed on the right side of the screen.
    • Alternatively, and if available with your operator, you can download their app to start charging.
  2. Both beacon and EV gun holsters light up in light blue. This is the moment to pull out the EV gun compatible with the vehicle and connect it.
  3. The charging session will start automatically after connecting the EV gun.

During the entire process, you can check for information on the Supernova display. Remember that you can also check this information on the operator’s app if available.
To stop a charge, go through these steps: 

  1. Unlock the screen by touching it / tapping your RFID card / using the app.
  2. Stop the charge by pressing “Stop charge”.
  3. Confirm your decision by pressing “Yes”. The payment will be processed through your RFID card or through the app.
  4. The charge is complete, and a summary is displayed on the screen.
  5. Unplug the gun and put it back in the holster.

Charging rates are freely defined by each Supernova operator. You will generally be charged per kWh used, or monthly according to a subscription you have contracted with your operator. Since kWh prices are based on the price of energy, you may want to check the electricity tariffs of your country to understand the cost.

Supernova accepts all the following payment methods:

  • Bank cards,
  • NFC payment methods,
  • RFID cards (in case you have a subscription with your Supernova operator).

You will usually receive a payment receipt from the Supernova operator’s app at the end of each charging sessions. If you need more information about the payment process, please contact your Supernova operator.
