1. Why Regular Updates Matter
Keeping your charger updated is crucial for several reasons:
- Enhanced Features: Gain access to new functionalities that improve usability and efficiency.
- Optimal Performance: Benefit from performance tweaks and optimisations that keep your charger running smoothly.
- Security Improvements: Protect your charger with the latest security enhancements to safeguard against potential vulnerabilities.
2. Wallbox App: The Source of Truth
The Wallbox App is your go-to resource for managing your charger and staying informed about updates:
- Check for Updates: The app will notify you when a new software version is available for your charger.
- Easy Installation: Follow the in-app instructions to download and install updates seamlessly.
Remember, if the app doesn’t show an available update, it means your charger is already up-to-date or the update hasn’t reached your charger yet due to the rollout schedule.
3. Understanding Wallbox Charger Updates and Release Process
At Wallbox, we are committed to enhancing your charging experience by regularly providing software updates that introduce new features, performance improvements, and security enhancements to your charger.
Our updates are rolled out gradually to ensure reliability and optimal performance. The update process may vary depending on your charger’s current software version and hardware revision. Some chargers require a “bridge version” update to access the latest software. The Wallbox App is your primary resource for managing updates and ensuring your charger stays up-to-date.
3.1. Our Gradual Release Process
To ensure each update performs optimally and reliably, we deploy new software versions through a gradual rollout:
- Initial Release: We make the update available to a small percentage of chargers.
- Progressive Expansion: If the initial rollout is successful, we will gradually increase the number of chargers eligible for the update. This step-by-step expansion continues until all chargers are included.
- Full Availability: Eventually, the update becomes available to all compatible Wallbox chargers.
This method ensures that every update enhances your charging experience without compromising reliability. Usually, charger updates become available for the targeted fleet within a couple of weeks after their initial release.
3.2. Software Availability and Hardware Revisions
The latest releases listed on our Release Notes page might not be immediately available for your specific charger.
Software versions apply to the product family and may vary depending on your charger’s specific hardware. To check the exact software version available for your charger, always refer to the Software Update section in the Wallbox App.
3.3. Understanding Bridge Versions
For chargers running older software versions (earlier than 5.17.X), a bridge version is required to access the latest updates. This means your charger will need to undergo two updates to reach the newest software.
Note: The bridge version is fully functional, so you can use your charger normally. After the first update, you might notice a pending update notification—this is just the second part of the update process waiting to be completed.
Online Updates
When updating your charger online, this process is automatic:
- First Update: The charger updates to an intermediary software version.
- Second Automatic Update: Upon restarting, the charger will automatically attempt to update to the final target version without your action.
If the charger loses connectivity or the update doesn’t complete, it will remain on the bridge version. In this case, you can initiate the update again through the Wallbox App.
Offline Updates
When updating your charger offline, this process requires launching two updates manually:
- Initiate Update: You’ll see the latest software version available in the Wallbox App and start the update.
- First Update to Bridge Version: The charger installs the bridge version first.
- Second Update to Final Version: You’ll see the update is still available. Start the update again to install the final version.
For example, if you have a Pulsar Plus running version 5.16.37 and want to update to 6.4.19:
- First Update: Upgrades to bridge version 5.17.87.
- Second Update: Upgrades to final version 6.4.19.
